Illegal trade in snake venom

Officers of the Information and Security Service annihilated a crossborder criminal group that was smuggling snake poison and selling it in Moldova and Western European countries, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Service’s website. The group included several police officers. It was very watchful and was looking for clients in criminal circles. Disguised policemen established contact with the illegal traders and posing as representatives of buyers from abroad, purchased a sample lot of the venom. The biological examination showed that it was venom of a very dangerous snake. The substance has a lethal effect on humans and is widely used to make synthetic drugs, being banned in Moldova. One gram of the poison costs about 3,000 US dollars on the black market. Later, the policemen under cover purchased the whole batch of 200 ampoules for 20,000 US dollars. The suspects were caught in the act of passing the money. Legal action was taken over this case. The culprits are liable to up to 10 years behind bars.
