ILO launches campaign to combat undeclared work
Moldova’s labor inspectors will improve their abilities in a series of seminars involving foreign experts. The seminars form part of the national undeclared work combating campaign that was launched by the International Labor Organization (ILO), Info-Prim Neo reports.
ILO National Coordinator in Moldova Ala Lipciu told a news conference that the campaign was launched in the context of the Decent Work Country Program that is an assistance program for Moldova supported by the International Labor Organization. The program supports the national efforts aimed at combating undeclared work and eliminating accidents at work and professional diseases.
“The Labor Inspectorate – the public institution responsible for monitoring how the labor legislation is implemented - is the direct beneficiary,” said Ala Lipciu. The trade unions and employers will be the campaign’s partners. The public will be sensitized to the risks related to undeclared work. Labor inspectors’ capacities will be strengthened by training seminars.
State labor inspector Dumitru Stavila said that such a campaign is carried out in Moldova for the first time and is welcome. Special attention will be paid to agriculture where illegal labor is used and the risk of the workers being injured is higher. “There are no legislative provisions that would regulate the work of the persons involved in agricultural works during a day or two,” he stated.
According to the data of the Labor Inspectorate, more than 700 persons working illegally were identified in 2011. Over 40 persons lose their lives in accidents at work every year. Another 80 persons are injured.
