Independence celebrated through sport

About 80 cyclists set off on the Chisinau – Straseni – Calarasi – Ungheni road in the morning of August 26, celebrating thus Moldova’s independence through sport, Info-Prim Neo reports. The participants included cyclists from different settlements of Moldova. The sportsmen will return to Chisinau along the same route on August 27. “The cyclists will stop for a short period in Straseni, Calarasi and Ungheni, where they will have meetings with the local administration and locals. Tomorrow, at 4pm, they will return to Chisinau,” Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said before the start of the race. According to Ion Cebanu, the cyclists will receive symbolic prizes of several hundreds of lei. The race is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of Moldova’s independence. The cyclists represent a number of sport schools. Deputy Minister of the Interior Vadim Dragomir said the cyclists will be accompanied by two police cars and an ambulance from Chisinau until Ungheni and back. The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Ministry of the Interior and the local public authorities of Chisinau, Straseni, Calarasi, and Ungheni.
