The legislative initiative that provides for the indexation of pensions twice a year - on 1 April and 1 October - has been registered today, 13 August, in the Parliament. The announcement was made by President Igor Dodon. The double indexation could become effective as of 1 January 2020, IPN reports.
"Indexation of 1 April shall be carried out according to the procedure in force - for all beneficiaries, equivalent to the average Consumer Price Index over the last three years. The 1 October indexation will target, in the first year of implementation - 2020, over 400 thousand pensioners, whose pension does not exceed the minimum subsistence level. The draft law will also stipulate increasing of social allowances for people with disabilities and for the elderly," says the President in a Facebook post.
Currently, pensions are indexed only once a year - on 1 April. This year, the indexation constituted 5.3%.
