Moldova’s integration into the European Union remains one of the key objectives of the Government, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger in Brussels, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Government.
The discussions centered on the identification of projects aimed at ensuring Moldova’s access to new sources of natural gas and energy. The officials spoke about the completion of the construction of the Iasi –Ungheni gas pipeline. The European commissioner agreed to take part in the ceremony to put the gas pipeline into commission, scheduled for the end of August.
The officials underlined the consistent cooperation between Moldova and the EU in the energy sector. Iurie Leanca thanked the EU officials for the support provided to Moldova in increasing energy efficiency.
“The Republic of Moldova is interested in diversifying the sources of energy. We want to be connected to the Europeans energy market and already worked out projects in this respect,” said the Prime Minister.
Gunther Oettinger said that Moldova is making progress in different areas and the country should also develop its energy sector.
Today, June 27, Iurie Leanca will sign the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union in Brussels.
