Any display of fireworks will need a special authorization that can only be obtained at the Public Order Division of the Minister of Interiors, announced Iacob Gumenita, Chisinau's police chief, at an ordinary City Hall meeting on Monday. Exceptions will be the pyrotechnical materials deemed less hazardous. A list of them will be published next week, Gumenita said. At the same time, Gumanita informed that firecrackers will be available only in specialized stores that hold specific permission from the Ministry. “There are many people who use illegal ways in order to obtain pyrotechnical materials and sell them at markets”, said the municipal police head, adding that this happens with the “tacit approval” of the markets' administration, which makes it more and more difficult for the police to do their job. Last week a 22-year-old man lost his fingers on his right hand after a firecracker exploded as he held it. The number of injuries caused by firecrackers is increasing and is expected to culminate at Christmas and on New Year's Eve.
