Ion Lazarenko, who is the first man on Earth who managed to swim across seven most dangerous straits in the world on the first attempt, was accepted by the Government for being proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.
In the immediate period, Ion Lazarenko will be promoted at international level by different activities that will help inform society about his accomplishments and the peace and unity messages promoted by swimming. The athlete will become Moldova’s ambassador in the peace promotion process and will take part in a series of events organized by international organizations and the embassies of Moldova.
Ion Lazarenko was named the Best Swimmer of Ireland for three consecutive years, becoming also the first man on Earth who overcame the seven most dangerous straits on his first attempt. Even if he has lived in Ireland for many years, he swims as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and informs international community about the Transnistrian conflict. His first project was “Peace Swimming over the Nistru” as part of which he swam 240 km during eight days for charitable purposes. “Nistru unites Moldova” is another peace and friendship project implemented by him.
The laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in December.
