Ion Muruianu formally reinstated as Supreme Court chief
Ion Muruianu is officially back in his office as head of the Supreme Court of Justice after the Court's Board on Tuesday accepted a formal letter from Muruianu to this effect, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Muruianu told reporters that the letter was a pure formality since the Constitutional Court had already ruled that the Parliament's decision to sack him had been unconstitutional.
“There was of course an alternative – to quit. I pondered over this option, but considering that Botezatu {(Raisa Botezatu, who served as caretaker – IPN)} resigned, I decided to return”, stated Ion Muruianu, whose term in office expired but who will remain as caretaker until a new chief justice is elected. Meanwhile, he will consider running for another term.
Muruianu went on to add that he didn't hold any grudges against his fellow Court members who supported his dismissal by Parliament on 5 July 2011, and he had no resentments against journalists either, but advised them to be “more attentive”.
Ion Muruianu was dismissed after he called journalists “rabid dogs” for their criticism of the judicial system.
