Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca offered his congratulations to the journalists on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day. According to a communiqué from the Government, the interim Premier said that a free and pluralistic press is crucial for a democratic state, while Moldova is in the height of the process of implementing the European values, which means freedom of expression and plurality of opinions.

“The World Press Freedom Day is a good occasion for assessing the results achieved in Moldova in the area of ensuring the fundamental freedoms, including the right to opinion and the freedom of expression, as well as the existing shortcomings. Today we can say with certitude that the journalism in Moldova has valuable professionals, while the role of the mass media in developing society is incontestable,” said Iurie Leanca.

The World Press Freedom Day is marked on May 3.
