Iurie Podarilov quits as General Police Inspectorate chief

Iurie Podarilov vacated the post of head of the General Police Inspectorate. His resignation was accepted by the Cabinet on February 16, IPN reports.

In the same meeting, the Cabinet named Viorel Cernăuțean to the vacancy after discharging him from the post of secretary of state at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The former vice director of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons Iurie Podarilov was appointed head of the General Police Inspectorate on September 8 last year. He later became involved in a scandal following a party given at a restaurant in Chisinau after 10pm, in breach of the imposed sanitary restrictions. It was rumored that those who attended the party included representatives of the law. This fact was denied by the administration of the Police.
