The Jewish community in Moldova celebrated the 61st anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel. The event took place at the Jewish center “Kedem” in Chisinau on Wednesday evening. The national anthems of Israel and of Moldova were played at the opening ceremony, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Avraham Sharon said during the event that the Jewish people continue to long for a lasting peace in Israel. “We have fought to defend ourselves and our relatives since we returned to our historical motherland. It is the 61st year of the war, our brothers continue to die and we see no end to this tragedy,” the ambassador said.
“On the 61st anniversary of the independence of the Israeli state, we are proud of its accomplishments even if we still encounter difficulties. We appreciate the fact that the Jewish communities from the whole world make common cause with the Israeli people. On this day, we tell our enemies that after tens of years of resistance, we have not yet lost hope to live in peace and harmony with them, while those that want to cause harm to our people will see that we are a strong country,” he said.
Stav Nejinskii, First Secretary of the Embassy of Israel in Moldova based in Kiev, wished Moldova to make progress in the process of implementing democratic reforms. “I wish that Moldova never faced the problems confronting now Israel. I have been in Moldova for more than half a year and saw that people of different nationalities leave together in peace here owing to tolerance,” he said.
The official part continued with a concert by Mihai Munteanu, Natalia Gordienco and Veaceslav Farber, actors of the theater “Pe strada Trandafirilor”, circus artists and others. Exhibitions of books and traditional Jewish toys were set up in the hall of “Kedem” center.
