The Press Council of Moldova said that plagiarism is often used in all the types of media, especially in online journalism, and the causes are various and include laziness and professional ignorance, Info-Prim Neo reports. A survey revealed that there is a shortage of knowledge about plagiarism. For a large part o the professionals working in the field, plagiarism is not a condemnable practice, while the attitude to the plagiarist is rather sympathetic. According to the survey, those whose ideas, words or works are copied do nothing to protect their legal rights and this creates prerequisites for the plagiarists. The survey authors recommend using all the means possible to combat plagiarism, including by informing the general public and the journalists’ guild about related cases. The issue should be regularly in the agenda of editorial meetings and of organizations that supervise professional deontology.
