Journalists to picket state institutions on May 3
Journalists will picket a number of state institutions (the Parliament, Government, Ministry of Finance) on May 3, when it is celebrated the World Press Freedom Day. They will demand canceling the local advertising tax that was introduced on January 1 this year. The decision to stage the protest was taken at the yearly General Assembly of the Association of Independent Press, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Association.
Members of the Association of Independent Press will protest against the amendments introduced to articles 290 and 291 of the Tax Code, which oblige the radio stations and television channels, the newspapers and Internet resources to pay a local tax on the placement/publication of advertisements of up to 5% of the size of the advertisement.
Earlier, the Public-Private Working Group for Strengthening the Press, which brings together representatives of the central public authorities and the mass media, asked the Government to initiate the procedures required to annul the amendments to the Tax Code.
