Judge accused of hushing up rape

A judge of the Rascani District Court is accused of taking bribe for hushing up a case of rape committed by the head of the Maintenance Section of Moldova’s Railways No. 1 of Chisinau, in his office on October 1, 2012. The accusations were made by the young woman, who maintains that she was sexually abused.

In a news conference at IPN, staged by the People’s Movement “Antimafie”, the organization’s deputy head Daniela Bodrug said that under a decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a criminal case was started against the employee of Moldova’s Railways No. 1. The culprit faces 10 to 20 years in jail or even life imprisonment. Several months later, the employee filed a complaint to the Rascani District Court, while the judge who is examining the case issued a decision by which the investigation results were nullified.

As a result, the Prosecutor General’s Office submitted an application to the Centru District Court, asking resuming the trial. The court is to pronounce on the matter on December 24.

Daniela Bodrug said the victim was informed about the decision of the Rascani District Court in several months only. In order to reopen the case, the victim had to be questioned repeatedly.
