Judoka Sergiu Toma voted best athlete of 2011

The Moldovan Sport Press Association (APSM) voted judoka Sergiu Toma Moldova's best athlete of the year. With 681 points, Toma bested boxer Veaceslav Gojan (630 points) and hammer thrower Zalina Marghiev (543 points), Info-Prim Neo reports. This year, Sergiu Toma won a silver medal at the European Championships and a bronze medal at the World Championship, which also makes him a favorite in the competition for the Sports Ministry's Best Athlete of the Year Award. The top ten athletes also include weightlifters Oleg Sirghi and Anatol Ciricu, wrestler Ludmila Cristea, boxers Vasile Belous and Alexandru Rîşcan (box), freestyle wrestler Nicolae Ceban, and steeplechaser Ion Luchianov. The best coach of the year according to APSM is boxing trainer Petru Caduc, followed by judo trainers Igor Neagu and Vasile Colta, and hammer throw coach Soslan Marghiev. The best team is the Rugby-15 national team, followed by the national futsal team and Moldova's current football champions Dacia Chisinau. 76 APSM members participated in the voting.
