Justice minister disapproves of statements made by Supreme Court of Justice president

Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase expressed his disapproval of the statements made by the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Asked to comment on the criticism leveled by Ion Muruianu to the press and the journalists, Alexandru Tanase said that as a member of the Government he does not subscribe to his statements. “It is regretful that the president of the Supreme Court of Justice did not understand what role the press plays in the society,” the minister said. “By his statements he practically restored the situation when the press was stopped from objectively reporting on the events taking place in the society.” Ion Muruianu's assertions do not represent the viewpoint of the entire judiciary, Tanase stressed. In this connection, Alexandrul Tanase said the Ministry of Justice is not entitled to dismiss the president of the Supreme Court of Justice. This is the prerogative of the Parliament and the Ministry will comply with its decision, he said. At the General Assembly of Judges on February 13, Ion Muruianu said: “A diabolic and destructive role in this is played by the mass media that are the guard dogs of the society, but sometimes turn into rabid dogs that become dangerous for the society through the lies that they spread.”
