Justice Minister rebukes, excuses 'rude' judge

“The conduct of Judge Sergiu Lazari today was improper, but it is also deplorable to administer justice in an 4 sq.m. office”, said Justice Minister Alexandru Tanase, commenting on the incident at the Buiucani District Court today, when Judge Lazari aggressed some reporters as they were trying to enter the court room where former Chisinau police chief Iacob Gumenita was on trial, Info-Prim Neo reports. The minister explained that the Buiucani District Court was one of the city's most overloaded courts. “I admit that the behavior of this judge has no excuse, but the conditions there are absolutely not allowing for trials to be conducted in a normal manner”, said Alexandru Tanase. The minister revealed that by the end of the year the Buiucan Court will be relocated to another building, for the repair of which the Government allocated 11 million lei. “This will be a model court for all the courts in the country”, said the minister, adding that further efforts will be made to provide roomier buildings to courts. Tanase said footage from today's incident would be examined to decide whether to discipline the judge, encouraging the aggressed reporters to file an official complaint. In conclusion, Alexandru Tanase reiterated that reporters have the right to attend all the public trials.
