KM 0 plate installed in Chisinau center

A Kilometer Zero plate was installed in the center of the capital outside the Central Post Office. It is stylized version of the wind rose, depicting distances to other capitals from Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. ICT Minister Pavel Filip said that the inauguration of this marker was an important event for the inhabitants of Chisinau and of the entire country. He highlighted the significance of installing it near the Post Office, which is meant to remind people that even in the information era the post remains a very important institution. The Mayor of Chisinau said that the choice was made between the Arch of Triumph and the Moldovan Post. The latter was chosen because traditionally distances are measured from the post office. He added that this marker is an European tradition that finally reached Chisinau as well. “I hope it will be a landmark for everyone”. General director of the Moldovan Post Stefan Munteanu said that distances to other localities will be measured from the marker in the center of the capital. “The Km 0 has a historical and social significance and even a touristic one for the visitors of our capital”, he added. Architect Victor Vieru said that the Km 0 marker was made of bronze and marble. On it are written several capitals and the distance to them. “From now on, the distances to municipalities, districts, towns and villages will be measured from here”. The project cost over 160,000 lei. The financing was provided by sponsors.
