The labor force of the Republic of Moldova, which includes the working population plus the unemployed, in the fourth quarter of last year was 887,700. There were no significant disparities by sexes: men – 50.6% and women – 49.4%. The labor force in rural areas was greater than in urban ones: 54.1% to 45.9%, IPN reports, with reference to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The working population totaled 849,700. The employment rate among men was 42.7%, while among women – 35.9%. By areas of residence, this indicator was 45.8% in urban areas and 34.7% in rural areas. The employment rate among people of working age (16-58 for women and 16-63 for men) was 48.5%, among people aged between 15 and 64 – 45.7% and among people aged between 15 and 29 – 28.7%.

By economic activities, each fifth person worked in agriculture (20.4%). The non-agricultural activities in the fourth quarter of last year constituted 79.6%. The persons working in industry represented 14.4%, in the building sector – 6.6%, while in the service sector – 58.6%.
