Lack of exit-polls does not influence electoral process, Arcadie Barbarosie

The executive director of the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) Arcadie Barbarosie said the lack of exit-polls does not influence the electoral process, this being more an instrument for satisfying the curiosity of the researchers and sociologists because the electoral preferences can be measured much easier by exit-polls, IPN reports.

“By exit-polls, usually in more mature democracies, the sociological companies and the media outlets, exploiting the curiosity of people, use this instrument to sell the airtime for publicity dearer. The results of the exit-polls cannot be used in court if somebody wants to challenge the results,” stated Arcadie Barbarosie.

The IPP staged exit-polls in 2005 and 2009, these being financed by donors. The donors were convinced to offer money for educating the people and for giving an example to the media outlets, which should have already borrowed such a practice, said the IPP director.

The first exit-poll in Moldova was conducted in 2005.
