Last five years were hottest on record in Moldova

The last five years were the hottest in Moldova since records began 125 years ago. The average yearly air temperature in the period rose by 1.6 degrees Celsius. The year 2019 was the hottest on record and the temperature rise tendency continues in 2020, IPN reports.

Data of the Chisinau weather service shows that the average yearly air temperature in 2019 was +12.2 degrees Celsius, being by 2.7 degrees Celsius higher than the norm. Given the high annual average temperature last year, 2019 took the lead.

According to weather forecasters, the 2019-2020 winter season was abnormally warm. The average temperature was +3.1 degrees Celsius, being by 5.2 degrees Celsius higher than the norm and being the highest on record.

The average air temperature in January – April 2020 was by 4.5 degrees Celsius higher than the norm. The high thermal regime and the shortage of precipitation in January-April this year generated damage to the national agricultural system.
