Last homage to poet Grigore Vieru

A delegation of officials of the Chisinau administration will go to the Saint Teodora of Sihla Church on Monday afternoon to pay homage to poet Grigore Vieru. He will be brought to the church where he used to go so that the people can bid farewell to him. The officials attending Monday’s meeting of the City Hall kept silent for a moment in memory of the poet, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Indisputably, it is an irrecoverable loss for all of us. It would be hard to part from Grigore Vieru, but he will live through what he did during his life – his work, modesty, simplicity, gentleness, the way that he promoted the truth for more than half a century,” the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said at the meeting. The students could also lit candles in memory of poet Grigore Vieru. According to the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the students accompanied by teachers can go to the Saint Teodora of Sihla Church on Monday to say goodbye to the bard. On January 16, 2009, Grigore Vieru was involved in a traffic accident. He was taken to the Chisinau Emergency Hospital, where he died 48 hours later. The day of January 20, when the poet is to be buried, was declared National Morning Day.
