“Lautarii” awarded Order of Republic

The national folk music orchestra “Lautarii” (“Fiddlers”) was conferred the Order of the Republic in appreciation for the special contribution to developing the musical art, propagation of the national values and promotion of Moldova’s image abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the presidential press service. The Order was awarded by Acting President Mihai Ghimpu during one of the concerts given by the orchestra to mark 40 years of the creation of “Lautarii”. “The orchestra “Lautarii” conducted by Master Nicolae Botgros is the pride of the Romanian folk song. In difficult times, the Moldovan people managed to keep the language and national traditions and customs with the help of the music of the fiddlers. “Lăutarii” warmed us when we were cold and made us joyful when we were sad,” said Mihai Ghimpu. Thanking for the award, conductor Nicolae Botgros said that the orchestra “Lautarii” will continue to develop folklore and to entertain the public. In the same concert, singers Irina Loghin and Cristian Pomohaci were conferred the honorific title of People’s Artist.
