Law on support measures for farmers to be improved

The law on the implementation of support measures for farmers in connection with the 2024 drought could be improved. A draft law in this regard was registered in Parliament, the chairman of the commission on economy, budget, and finance Radu Marian announced, quoted by IPN.

Thus, according to the source, the term of application will be extended until October 31, 2025 and an express provision that the law applies to all current debts of farmers will be introduced. At the same time, along with farmers, input suppliers will be included as beneficiaries of the law and the provision about the extent of damage caused to an area will be excluded.

Radu Marian also noted that the limit of 3,500 hectares will be introduced for the eligibility of beneficiaries. The maximum limit of 20% of the area of orchards and vegetables will also be introduced in the agricultural portfolio for eligibility, and the concession of contracts for creditors without the debtor's consent will be prohibited.

At the same time, landowners during the effective application period of the law will be banned from concluding lease contracts with other farmers, if the contractual obligations for 2024 have been respected.
