Lawyer asks 3000 euros for corrupting judges and prosecutors
A lawyer from Balti asked 3,000 euros from a female resident of Gaspar village of Edinet district in order to bribe the prosecutors and judges who were examining a case opened against her son, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC). The woman wanted a sentence in favor of her son and the guarantee that it will not be appealed to higher courts.
As a result of investigations conducted by officers of the Nord General Zonal Division, the lawyer was caught in the act of taking the 3,000 euros. The banknotes were found in the safe and confiscated. All of them were marked as “CCCEC bribe”.
Legal action was taken against the lawyer over influence peddling. The offender is liable to seven years’ imprisonment or fine of 1,000 to 3,000 conventional units (a c.u. is equal to 20 lei).
