The court decided that lawyer Valerian Manzat will stay under house arrest for a period of 30 days. The judges of the Buiucani Court passed the judgment in the afternoon of March 2. The lawyer is banned from leaving his house, from having telephone discussions and from communicating with persons involved in the case, IPN reports.
When going out of the courtroom, the lawyer said he is not guilty.
A month ago, Valerian Manzat was arrested by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center in a case of swindle. He is suspected of obtaining €20,000 from a woman, by swindle and abuse of confidence, for hastening the transfer of her husband from a Russian penitentiary to a Moldovan one.
The lawyer had been monitored by anticorruption officers for a period, while prosecutors tapped his telephone conversations with the client. The wiretaps show the lawyer didn’t solve the problem and the woman asked for her money back. The lawyer was arrested when he was returning a part of the received money.
