Lazarus Saturday is marked tomorrow

The Orthodox Christians celebrate Lazarus Saturday on March 27. This is the day before Palm Sunday and is liturgically linked to it. The feast celebrates the resurrection of Lazarus of Bethany. On this day, the people wear white clothes, which symbolize the return to life and purity, and are allowed to eat roe, Archpriest Teodor Borta, of the God's Birth Cathedral in Chisinau, told Info-Prim Neo. Lazarus of Bethany, also known as Saint Lazarus or Lazarus of the Four Days, is the subject of a prominent miracle attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus restores him to life four days after his death. Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday together hold a unique position in the church year, as days of joy and triumph interposed between the penitence of Great Lent and and the mourning of Holy Week. Priest Teodor Borta said on this day the people should think of good deeds and behave themselves. The women do not sew and wash. It is said that the hair of those who work on Lazarus Saturday will become white. By tradition, the people on this day make a large pie and eat it with wine to reinvigorate the body.
