Leuseni-Albita border crossing point resumes work

The Customs Service of Moldova issued a communiqué, confirming that the customs post Leuseni was closed on a temporary basis in connection with the inspection carried out by the Romanian authorities at the Albita border crossing point during several hours on February 21. Meanwhile, the Romanian press reported that the border crossing point Leuseni-Albita resumed work, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Taking into account the circumstances, the Customs Service and the Border Guards ordered closing the customs post Leuseni until the situation is clarified and the activities are coordinated with the National Customs Authority of Romania. According to the information provided by the Iasi Regional Division of the National Customs Authority, in order not to hinder the movement of units of transport and people, the inspection will be taken over by other customs workers. Thus, after 9am the Leuseni-Albita post will work according to the ordinary program,” it is said in the communiqué. According to the Romanian press, the inspection at the Albita Customs Post in Vaslui was carried out between 6am and 8am. No vehicle or person entered the custom in the period. Albita is the fourth customs in Romania that was inspected. Seventy border police and customs officers are accused of cigarette smuggling. The homes of the suspects are also being searched.
