Local elected officials infected with COVID-19

A number of mayors and district heads tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The local elected officials were hospitalized and feel fine, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated after the meeting of the Single Command Center that manages the COVID-19 pandemic, IPN reports.

Premier Chicu said the data presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs show the people became more responsible as regards the infection prevention measures. Hundreds of calls are made to the police to report cases when citizens do not respect the restrictions related to the self-isolation regime. A number of fines were imposed in these cases.

According to the official, the minister of home affairs today travelled to the two villages of Hâncești district that are in quarantine and established that the regime there is respected, as villagers confirmed. In Sofia village, the 14-day quarantine expires in two days. If there are no new cases of infection with COVID-19 in the period, the quarantine regime will not be extended. In Bălceana village, the last case of infection with the novel coronavirus was recorded on March 25.

Of the 298 persons with COVID-19 logged in Moldova so far, 15 recovered, while two died.
