Head of Parliament and Acting President of Moldova Marian Lupu said the results of the June 5 local elections will influence the general political situation in the country. “I voted for making the changes that we are implementing irreversible. The voters started to understand that in a democratic state, once in four years they can decide how the events will develop in the future. I’m glad that the people’s level of democratic culture increases,” Marian Lupu said after casting his vote.
Asked by Info-Prim Neo if the local elections may be followed by early legislative elections, the Speaker said everything depends on the election outcome. “There are two possible scenarios - the early elections will be inevitable or a political balance will be established that will help avoid the early parliamentary elections,” said the Acting President.
Marina Lupu voiced hope that the mayor of Chisinau will be elected by one round. “I think that our voters
are intelligent and will make the right choice. I expect only positive results, both at local and national levels,” he stated.
Marian Lupu voted at 12.00 together with his wife at the polling place housed by Polyclinic No. 1. According to the deputy head of the polling place Vlad Birta, 420 of the 1,500 persons written in the rolls voted there by noon. He said the people are very active. As the previous years, the elderly persons vote mainly in the first half of the day.
