Local press identifies cases of misuse of public money
The local and national independent newspapers in Ungheni, Soroca, Cimislia and Rezina discovered a number of irregularities in the use of public money as part of a monitoring project.
The project “Ask for Explanations for the Use of Public Money!” was coordinated by the Independent Press Association. Among the incorrect practices identified by the publications “Unghiul”,
“Observatorul de Nord”, “Business Info” and “Cuvantul” were the distribution of financial resources according to the principle “a little for everyone”, financing of the work of inefficient public institutions and unfounded public acquisitions, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Association.
The results of the monitoring were published in a brochure titled “Guidebook on Local Budget and Involvement of Citizens in the Social Control over the Use of Public Money”, which was distributed to the local and central authorities, representatives of nongovernmental organizations and the local press.
The project was implemented with support from Soros Moldova Foundation as part of the Public Administration and Good Governance Program.
