The lover of a woman who was previously convicted of the murder of her husband, committed in 2008 in a village in Rascani district, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that the defendant was extradited from Russia, where he was living with another woman.

The murder was committed when the husband returned home from Portugal. One night, the wife lured her husband near an auxiliary building in their yard, where the lover hit him with a cudgel and kept him powerless on the ground, while the wife was strangling him. When he showed no signs of life, the two buried him one kilometer away from the village. A few years later, the victim’s bones were discovered by his son.

In August 2022, the woman was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the murder of her husband.
