The vehicle and passenger traffic at the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points in the first seven months of this year diminished, while at the Moldovan-Romanian checkpoints doubled or even trebled in parts at the beginning of August, when the Moldovans working abroad come home on vacation, IPN reports.
In a press beefing at the Tudora border cruising point, director general of the Border Police Dorin Purice said the number of people crossing the border to Ukraine fell by 22%, while the number of vehicles - by 17.1%.
“This fall is surely due to the tense situation in Ukraine and to the fact that the Moldovans now choose other countries as destinations for their vacation after the visa requirements were abolished,” said Dorin Purice.
At the same time, the Moldovan-Romanian border is crossed by two times more people. Over 22,000 people recently crossed the border through the Leuseni checkpoint during a day at a time when about 8,000 people usually pass through it during 12 hours.
