“Luceafarul” Theater marks half a century of activity

The National Theater “Luceafarul” is celebrating 50 years of work. In a symposium held to mark this event, Minister of Culture Boris Focsa, who had headed the theater for 11 years, said “Luceafarul” will remain the page of a profound culture and theater history, Info-Prim Neo. The theater was founded in 1960, when 20 actors who graduated from the Russian school “Shchukin” returned from Moscow. They included Ion Ungureanu, Dumitru Caraciobanu, Ion Gore, Eugenia Todorascu, Nina Mocreac, and Dumitru Fusu. They were those who tried to remove propagandistic party elements from the Moldovan Theater. Ion Ungureanu said that even if this theater faced serious challenges and was to be closed for many times, it continues to be not a star, as it is named, but a constellation. “When you speak about “Luceafarul” Theater, you speak about the actors first and then about the directors,” said Ungureanu. On the occasion of the anniversary, theater critic Dina Ghimpu will launch a book titled “Recollections in White and Black” about “Luceafarul”. The volume contains interviews with actors of the theater and chronicles about the plays put on there. The repertoire of “Luceafarul” Theater contains 25 plays, including “The Cherry Orchard” by A.P. Chekhov, “The Masquerade” by M. Lermontov, “Cabaret Jacksonville” directed by B.Focsa, “Questa e la vita dolce?..” by Gh.Urschi, “Testament I” by Gh. Urschi.
