An evening was held in Chisinau on June 28 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Italian writer Luigi Pirandello. The Embassy of Italy in Moldova and the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” staged a performance of the Theater’s Chamber Orchestra directed by conductor Sergey Rachenko and a sequence of the play “Man, Beast and Virtue” directed by Andrea Battistini, IPN reports.
“Pirandello in Italia is one of the pillars of the Italian literature and dramaturgy. All the students at the lyceum study his works and read his novels. Given the high number of Moldovans in Italy and the considerable number of Italians here, in Moldova, culture becomes a part of the interconnection and is an important part of the heritage of the two states, which is common heritage,” said Italy’s Ambassador in Chisinau Valeria Biagiotti.
Italian writer, dramatist and poet Luigi Pirandello was born in Sicilia on June 28, 1867. He is considered the initiator of a new way of understanding theater, which had a decisive influence on the dramaturgy of the 20th century. In 1934, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
