Maia Laguta, the head of the nongovernmental organization “Salvgardare” (“Safeguard”) who staged pensioners' protests in Chisinau, has told the reporters that she was threatened with fine of 60,000 lei for violating public order if the court passes judgment against her in this case.
60,000 lei is the estimated value of the damage caused by closing Stephan the Great Boulevard for traffic during several days.
“Somebody blocked the street and I will have to pay. I'm not guilty and I will prove this,” Maia Laguta said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. She said the Prosecutor's Office does not have evidence to prove that she is to blame for the blockage.
After a five-day pause, the pensioners resumed the protests against the rise in water and sewerage charges and the annulment of concessions on trips by public means of transport.
The protests started on September 29 and were suspended on October 2. The organizers said the protests will be resumed on October 8, when the CIS Summit will open in Chisinau, in order to make them resounding.
