Even if the candidate proposed for Prime Minister, Natalia Gavrilița, is voted in, a solution will be looked for to trigger snap parliamentary elections as this Government, no matter how good it is, if it does not enjoy the legislature’s support, will be limited in its actions, President Maia Sandu stated on Facebook live before the meeting with the Moldovan diaspora in France, IPN reports.
“A good Government comes with good laws, prepares these laws, but if there is no majority that would support these laws in Parliament, they cannot be materialized and cannot help the people,” stated Maia Sandu. She noted that she nominated a person whom she trusts as a candidate for premiership and she knows that Natalia Gavrilița will be a good Prime Minister if she is voted in and she will come with a good program and a good team.
Maia Sandu said the answer to the question if snap legislative elections will take place is in Parliament. If Parliament fails to vote in a candidate for Prime Minister twice, the process of dissolving Parliament can be initiated and snap elections are called.
“I think we need snap elections as the current composition of Parliament does not serve the people. We do not have a majority that would take decisions in favor of the people, would approve laws for the people and would support the justice sector reform, would fight corruption and would support a good Government that would work for the people. We need both a Government and a Parliament, in particular a functional parliamentary majority,” said Maia Sandu, noting the political deadlock can be broken only by free and fair snap elections where the people would vote not for thieves, but for honest people.
Candidate for Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița is to present her government program and her team to Parliament this week or next week.
