President Maia Sandu said that the justice sector reform is the most important reform in the European integration process. The EU accession negotiations are opened with it and are completed with it. The process of cleaning up the justice system will end the coming months or year and the judiciary and the prosecution system will be credible as a result, IPN reports.
“The justice sector reform is the most important one for our state to function normally. So, we will insist and it is natural to see discussions. Not everyone in the judiciary is happy about this cleaning process that is based on external extraordinary evaluation. Yes, it is an extraordinary assessment to which we resorted because the system didn’t want to clean itself voluntarily, through the institutions that should have ensured the elimination of toxic, corrupt people from the system and promote honest ones. As this didn’t happen, we had to resort to the extraordinary evaluation that lasts, takes more time and which, yes, generates all kinds of topics, discussions,” stated Maia Sandu.
The official noted that the corrupt people are eliminated from the system and she wants this to happen faster. “I’m sure that in the coming months, year, we will complete this cleaning process and will have credible institutions in the judicial system and in the prosecution system. Then we will be able to see actions from them. What we see today – prosecutors and judges who try to do their job well and prosecutors and judges who try and manage to undermine the work of these,” said President Sandu.
She also referred to the Anticorruption Court. “We need an effort concentrated on cases of grand corruption as these cases of grand corruption have caused major damage to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, to the state. We need final decisions on these cases so that we can recover money abroad and also in the country. That’s why I believe this Anticorruption Court is necessary,” noted the official.
