The main suspect in the case of corruption of MPs Vitalie Burlacu was arrested by investigation officers of the General Police Inspectorate on November 16, IPN reports.

Vitalie Burlacu was handcuffed in Vadul lui Voda town. He is to be handed over to the Department of Penitentiary Institutions.

This April, a court of law issued a warrant for his arrest for 30 days. Later he was put on the wanted list. Several months later, the Buiucani Court sentenced Burlacu to 11 years and 4 months in jail. The judgment was passed in his absence.

The case over the corruption of MPs was started in March 2014. As a result of an operation performed by the National Anticorruption Center, ex-police officer Vitalie Burlacu and his girlfriend Irina Baglai were caught in the act of transmitting US$250,000 to an intermediary. The money was to be passed on to an MP for persuading this to leave the government coalition. Afterword, prosecutors and anticorruption officers found half a billion euros in one of the commercial banks of Chisinau. The safe deposit box was rented by Irina Baglai. This June Baglai was given two years’ probation.
