A man from Chisinau was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center and anticorruption prosecutors on influence peddling charges. He asked and received in three installments, €12,800, which is the equivalent of 253,824 lei, from the mother of a culprit for influencing the punishment of the latter, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspect said that through the agency of a lawyer, he can influence a judge of the Court of Chisinau to pass a noncustodial sentence against the woman’s son who was accused of drug distribution.

The criminal case was started in August 2023 following a denouncement.
