A man aged 35 with Romanian and Moldovan nationalities tried to take large sums of money into Moldova without declaring them at the Albita border crossing point on July 23, IPN reports.

According to the Iasi Border Police Territorial Inspectorate, the man intended to leaver Romania driving a car. Based on the risk profile and information possessed by the border crossing point, the person was examined thoroughly. The joint control team discovered on him €18,000, US$ 2,000 and over 1,000 Moldovan lei that were hidden and not declared.

The Romanian customs authority initiated the confiscation of the sums that exceeded €10,000 and fined the man 3,000 Romanian lei.

The Iasi Border Police Territorial Inspectorate reminds the participants in border traffic that they must declare in customs posts the cash in national and/or foreign currency that is equal to or exceeds the set limit, carried on the person, in units of transport or in accompanied and unaccompanied baggage or parcels. The undeclared cash that exceeds the set limit is confiscated.
