Man from Comrat remains alive after wall crashes over him

A 55-year-old man from Comrat was rushed to the hospital after a wall collapsed over him at a local granary where he worked.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, the rescuers needed 20 minutes to take the man out. He was partially covered with grain and had his legs blocked.

The man was admitted to the Traumatology Section. He suffered a number of traumas, but his life is out of danger.

Snejana Tucan, press officer of the Gagauzia Police Division, has told IPN that a criminal case could be started depending on the gravity of the injures suffered by the man. He worked at the mill to which the grain elevator belonged.

Contacted by IPN, Victor Țurcan, division head at the State Labor Inspectorate, said the incident in Comrat was communicated and recorded. It is a work accident that resulted in temporary incapacity for work. A commission of the company where the man worked is examining the case and the Inspectorate will monitor the investigation period and the compilation of the required documents. The employee can ask the company to cover all the treatment costs.

According to the Inspectorate’s statistics, 322 work accidents with 374 persons hurt occurred from the beginning of this year until October 20. A number of 44 persons were killed in accidents at work.
