A resident of Balti municipality aged 37 was sentenced to 12 years in jail for swindle. According to prosecutors in Balti, in 2012-2013 the culprit defrauded his girlfriend of €12,500 and US$3,000, IPN reports.

The culprit invented different reasons such as the need to purchase medicines for his sick mother or to buy an apartment. He also told the victim that he is a customs officer and needs money for not being arrested for taking bribe.

Five more persons became victims of the offender, who swindled these out of money and property to the value of 48,000 lei.

The court also ordered that the accused should make restitutions to the victims, equal to the damage caused to them.
