A man, 65, was sentenced to 12 years in a closed prison after being found guilty of raping his 5-year-old step-granddaughter in late January.
The court heard that the assault happened when the girl’s mother, who is the daughter-in-law of the accused, went to the grocery and asked the man to babysit the girl.
The sentence may be appealed.
