A Chisinau man, 42, was arrested on pandering and trafficking charges after he allegedly deceived a 26-year-old into practicing prostitution mainly via social media platforms, IPN reports.

The police said in a press release that the man pretended to be an officer of the Center Against Trafficking in Persons (CCTP) and told the woman that he was investigating two cases against her. He then offered to “help” the woman if she agreed to practice prostitution under his direction.

The actual CCTP officers arrested the man, who turned out to have been previously convicted of fraud and theft. The suspect faces up to 7 years in prison.
