The man who supposedly killed a seven-year-old girl in Recea village of Râșcani district last August will appear before judges. Psychiatric experts found him mentally fit to be tried. He faces life imprisonment, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the 21-year-old is charged with intentional murder of a minor, committed with particular cruelty. It was established that on the evening of August 7, 2023, the girl, who lived in the neighborhood, came to call the elder brother of the accused out.

“Being annoyed that the child disturbed him, he told her to wait for him near the gate of the house of the defendant’s grandfather, which was opposite his house. Later, he went outside and led the child to an annex of that house, where he strangled her, then filled her mouth with earth and covered the body with garbage,” reads a press release of the PGO.

The man was remanded in custody He denied any wrongdoing. If he is found guilty, the accused will serve 20 years to life.

The police were notified of the girl’s disappearance in the evening of August 7. The child had been looked for throughout the night, including with drones and search dogs. The body was found only the next day in an abandoned house.
