Man who axed three family members gets 27 years in jail
A 22-year-old man who murdered his grandmother, father and uncle successively with an ax was sentenced to 27 years in prison, but prosecutors appealed in a bid to get him a life sentence, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Prosecutor General's office recalled in a press release that the triple murder occurred in Cahul district at the beginning of this year.
Before committing the murder, already drunk, the man broke into a neighboring household and stole 100 liters of wine. At home, he continued to drink together with his grandmother, father and uncle. In an outburst of fury, the man took an ax and struck the elderly woman, killing her instantly. Then the assailant attacked the two other family members, who died shortly in hospital.
The convicted man is a repeater; he was released from prison in 2008 after committing a murder while a minor.
