A group of NGOs on July 15 will mount a march to celebrate the 560th anniversary of the enthronement of Stephan the Great and Holy. The march will start in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”, after a service that will begin at 8:30am, and will continue until the ruler’s monument in central Chisinau, where a commemoration meeting will be staged.
Deacon Ghenadie Valuta, in a news conference at IPN on June 30, said that without the benchmarks of the faith and policies of Stephan the Great, we will be unable to live in a prosperous country. “Never in the history of Moldova was such progress, geopolitical, social, moral and financial success as that seen under the rule of Stephan witnessed,” stated the deacon.
Nicolae Pascaru, head of the Movement “Voievod”, said the young people should know those moments of glory of Stephan the Great. Head of the Youth Movement “Followers of Stephan” Dumitru Roibu added that the events that will be staged on July 15 are designed to contribute to the promotion and dissemination of the historic values of the ruler.
According to Igor Sarbu, chairman of the public association “Moldovan shield”, Moldova’s future is in the hands of the young generation. “That’s why it is very important to educate and train the young people so as to form a powerful society. To understand the future, we must know the past. We live in a period of historical importance. Only by combing forces, can we overcome these difficult times,” stated Igor Sarbu.
On July 2, when it will be the 513th anniversary of the ruler’s death, representatives of the organizations will lay flowers at the Monument to Stephan the Great in the center of Chisinau.
