Mayor fined for trying to illegally sell state-owned land

A mayor who attempted to sell state-owned land illegally for over 44,000 lei was fined 16,000 lei and deprived of the right to hold public posts for a period of three years, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to prosecutors in Ialoveni, in order to register the land as private property of an individual the mayor falsified an order, indicating that the plot was agricultural land. The plot is 5.03 hectares in area. 2.96 hectares are state property, while the rest of the land is under the ownership of the mayor's office. The mayor also drew up a number of documents on the basis of which the sale and purchase contract was signed. The mayor signed the falsified documents personally and put the stamp of the mayor's office on them. Later, the mayor ordered selling another plot of 1.672 hectares for over 15,000 lei. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
