Mayor of Chisinau demands prompt action in case of accidents
The Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the intervention services must take action in case of accidents within an hour. The instruction comes after an accident last week left 11,000 apartments in the municipality of Chisinau without hot water, heat and electricity during about 12 hours, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the mayor, that emergency showed that the capital city needs electric power in reserve and the relevant bodies should identify alternative solutions for obtaining it.
After the voltage in a power line decreased on February 11, the volume of electric power supplied fell by 20% and the thermal station Vest, eight pumping stations and 10 suburban thermal stations were disconnected from the power supply. A number of 127 apartment buildings, nine kindergartens and six schools remained without hot water, heat and electricity.
The mayor said the specialists of Union Fenosa and Termocom did not react promptly and instructed the competent bodies to lodge an application with the National Agency for Energy Regulation, asking that the regulations be modified so that the intervention services take action within one hour, not 72 hours as stipulated in Union Fenosa's regulations for example.
“The normative documents should be modified,” Dorin Chirtoaca said at Monday's meeting of the Chisinau services and divisions. “The specialists must be at the place of the accident within one hour and deal with it.”
The mayor said the Cuchurgan Power Plant could supply the necessary volume of electricity in case of low voltage, but such a decision must be taken by the Government.
The commercial director of Termocom SA Mihai Arusoi said the February 11 accident was the only serious one and was caused by the unfavorable weather conditions.
